Software tool brings quicker power fixes Dominion Post InfoTech: 9 May 2001 Consumers can expect faster fixes of power outages on the national grid after Transpower purchased analytics software from Wellington firm Harmonic. Transpower spokeswoman Rebecca Wilson said the software tool would analyse performance information supplied by its substations, monitor its communication network and help it to speed up the delivery of information. "As we complete our extensive capital infrastructure programme - around $3.8 billion over the next five years - there will be substantially more data to collate and this tool will help to predict the impact of additional information on our SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) network." The tool which cost about $500,000 would help it analyse the root cause of problems on the network. Transpower expected "increased response times on any incident on the national grid due to greater and more detailed information being available". Read more. Transpower Case Study (PDF) |
