The Data Scientist role is a high energy and high commitment position.

Key duties include: requirements definition, data quality assessment, data analysis, data visualisation, statistical/mathematical modelling and implementation of data-driven solutions.  

This role requires a wide range of customer-facing, teamwork and service delivery skills.  The successful candidate must demonstrate strong communication and problem solving capabilities.  

Domestic travel is a requirement.  International travel may be a requirement.  

Only applicants that are legally entitled to work in New Zealand and can make themselves available for interviews in New Zealand will be considered for this position.  

Successful candidates must have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Preferably at postgraduate level, tertiary qualification in Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering Science or Data Science

  • Excellent academic records and/or comparable experience

  • Strong background in statistical models, data analytics and data mining methods and/or operations research methods. Experience working with industry data will be well regarded

  • Proven skills in solving problems and building solutions using R.  

  • Ability to work with industry clients in an unfamiliar environment to identify problems and translate those into project requirements and milestones

  • Ability to develop and deliver analytics solutions

  • Excellent project discipline, particularly defining objectives, task planning, achieving milestones, problem identification, solution development and quality assessment

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, particularly listening and confirming statements and assumptions  Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and articulate methodologies and results to non-technical audiences

  • A team player who thrives working in a collaborative team environment

  • Flexibility to work at different domestic locations to meet work requirements.
