Contact Energy is one of New Zealand's leading providers of electricity, natural gas, broadband, solar & renewable energy. They own and operate twelve power stations in New Zealand with a generation portfolio made up of geothermal, hydro and natural gas assets.

The Challenge

Contact Energy wanted a 360° view of their process safety performance across sites and plants that could be used by executives and operational staff. It needed to meaningfully visualise 60+ KPIs across 6 different risk control areas and would draw from 7 different data sources.

The Solution

Throughout the project, Harmonic worked closely with health and safety experts and executive stakeholders, to plan, design, and develop the dashboard in R.

The highly visual tool supports executives and operational staff with an overview of KPIs, enabling immediate identification of areas that need their attention. Added functionalities allow executives to monitor performance improvement trends, while engineering subject matter experts can quickly investigate and respond to areas of concern by drilling down into data when required.

Specific use case needs are supported through custom view functionality which in return improves staff efficiency. The solution is also dynamic to allow adjustment and addition of KPIs and data is automatically updated daily.
